The 4th China New Materials Industry Development Conference opened in Wenzhou

On October 9, 2023, the 4th China New Materials Industry Development Conference and Liquid Flow Battery Industry Forum opened in Wenzhou. 51 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Engineering, as well as over 6000 experts, scholars, business and investment professionals from all over the country, gathered on the banks of the Oujiang River to discuss the high-quality development of the new materials industry, explore the current situation and challenges of the industry for future development.
Li Yuanyuan, academician of the CAE Member and chairman of the Chinese Society for Materials Research, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Wei Bingbo, academician of the CAS Member and chairman of the Chinese Society for Materials Research, presided over the ceremony. Zhang Zhenfeng, deputy secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and mayor, delivered a speech.

On the afternoon of October 10th (October 8-11, 2023, 4 days), the "4th China New Materials Industry Development Conference - Flow Battery Industry Forum" was jointly organized by the Wenzhou Research Institute of Zhejiang University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and other units, hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology, the China Society for Materials Research, and the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government. Multiple experts, professors, entrepreneurs, and investors gathered at the sub venue to discuss the development of flow battery technology and industrialization, focusing on the national new materials of "forward-looking layout", "breakthrough of shortcomings", and "construction of independent advantage guarantee system". Cao Pengfei, Minister of Innovation and Development Department of Suzhou Kerun New Materials Co., Ltd., was invited to share a keynote report on the latest progress in the industrialization of perfluorinated proton membranes for flow batteries. Perfluorinated proton membranes are one of the core components of flow batteries, with characteristics such as small thickness, high strength, low swelling, high dimensional stability, and good durability. They are suitable for use in energy storage flow batteries and hydrogen energy industries and have been widely applied.

The report shared Kerun's iterative development plan and industrialization progress in perfluorinated ion membranes. In response to the technological requirements for the next generation of large-scale energy storage flow batteries, Kerun has conducted extensive exploration in fluorinated monomer structures, perfluorosulfonic acid resin polymerization processes, and proton exchange membrane preparation processes, and has developed perfluorinated proton membranes suitable for the next generation of high-power density, high energy efficiency, and high stability fuel cells. At the same time, the company's research and development progress on ion exchange membranes in other flow systems such as neutral flow and alkaline flow were introduced.
